米公祠，原名米家庵，位于古樊城柜子城上，隔汉水与襄阳小北门相望。始建于元朝，明末毁于战火，现存全部建筑系清康熙至雍正年间重建。它是为纪念我国北宋时期杰出的书画大师米芾而修建的祠宇。米芾，字元章，号襄阳漫士、鹿门居士，人称米襄阳。生于一0五一年，卒于一一0七年。米芾擅诗文，工书画，精鉴赏，酷爱收藏，多才多艺，广通博贯，而其书画的成就尤为突出。其书法得王献之笔意，博取众长，不守陈规，自成“沉着痛快”的“刷字”艺术的新风貌，被誉为一代宗师，与苏轼、黄庭坚,蔡襄并称为北宋四大书法家。其绘画，创制了“米氏云山”，应是绘画艺术史上的先河。
     米公祠由三部分建筑群体组成，中轴为主体建筑亭、拜殿、碑廊、宝晋斋、仰高堂，总占地面积为一万二千多平方米。殿堂里珍藏陈列有米芾及宋四家大量的墨迹和石刻。拜殿、宝晋斋内悬挂的匾额、楹联琳琅满目，“颠不可及”、“妙不得笔”、“与孟鹿门号两襄阳书传千古，共苏黄蔡称四巨子颠压三人”等题词，是后人对米芾书法及人物性格的高度评价。
     中轴两侧为东、西石苑、苑内亭、台、榭廊高低错落，参差有致，游鱼满塘。廊壁陈列着米芾、苏轼、黄庭坚、蔡襄等书法石刻一百多块，以及当代著名书法家为米公祠留下的墨迹石刻三十多块。这些书法精品，是一座巨大的艺术宝库，每年吸引着大批中外游人到此参观，弘扬了我国古老而优秀的传统文化，对宣传襄樊，创建文明城市起着重要的作用。

     Brief Introduction of Mi Fu Memorial Temple Mi Fu Memorial Temple was built on the site of Mi Fu’s residence.It is in memory of Mi Fu ,who was one of the greatest calligraphers and painters of the Song Dynasty.Mi Fu(1051-1107),he styled himself Yuanzhang,and was also known by his litrary name Xiangyang Wangering Scholar and Deer Gate Inhabitant.People called him Mi Xiangyang.Huizong,one of the emperors of the Song Dynasty,honoured him to be the Doctor(a high official)in charge of calligraphy and painting for he could write poems and was good at calligraphy and panting . Mi Fu,Cai Xiang,Su Shi and Huang Tingjian were known as the most famous calligraphers of the Song Dynasty. Gaozong,another emperor of the Song Dynasty,also highly praised Mi Fu for his calligraphy.
     The original name of Mi Fu Memorial temple was Mi Fu’s Family Temple.It was first built in the Yuan Dynasty ,and enlarged in the Ming Dynasty.and it was renamed Mi Fu Memorial Temple in the Qing Dynasty.Since 1693,Mi Fu’s descendants had it rebuilt several times successively .The present temple was rebuilt again in 1865.In the memorial temple,there are many memorial buildings,such as halls,studio,pavilions,etc.There are 45 pieces of Mi Fu’s calligraphy works copied by his descendants,and other 145 pieces of works of calligraphy insc riptions .Mi Fu Memorial Temple and calligraphy engravings were proclaimed to be the major historical sites under the protection of Hubei government in 1956.
